Although Aidensfield is fictional, the village used for filming was Goathland, located in the heart of the North York Moors National Park in North Yorkshire.
The village provided the perfect setting for the series thanks to its traditional stone cottages, village green, historic railway station and stunning moorland scenery.
For many viewers, Goathland and Aidensfield became almost interchangeable, with the village instantly recognisable from countless episodes filmed over the show’s 18-year run.
